Seetag/Day at Sea 7 auf der/on QUANTUM OF THE SEAS

Meine Mutter ist ja nachts öfters unterwegs, als dass ich es dieses Mal bin. Von ihr erfahre, dass es eine 24-Stunden-Essensausgabe im Windjammer Café gibt. Sie ist allerdings nicht im Tagesprogramm veröffentlicht.



My mother was moving around more often at night than I was this time. From her, I learned that there was a 24-hour food outlet in the Windjammer Café. However, it was not published in the daily program.

You could see more crew members but passengers. Maybe, that was the reason, why it was not published on the daily programme.



Man sieht aber mehr Crew Mitglieder als Gäste. Vielleicht ist das auch der Grund, warum es nicht im Tagesprogramm steht.

Bis 03:00 Uhr nachts lt. Tagesprogramme hat das Promenaden Café geöffnet.

Aber hier wird schon gerade sauber gemacht.



But here, they were already cleaning.

This night and the day were so bumpy that even the open decks were closed. Later, all activities in the rear open sports area (RipCord and FlowRider) would also be canceled. Also, North Star was suspended. So we were lucky that we did already it yesterday. Not all exits to the open decks were closed consistently because smokers opened the way out without further ado. But even with my about 209 lbs. I had difficulties in the wind to keep me upright, and I went back in for safety reasons. Annoying, however, was that the pools were emptied very late and the water games in the children's pools were not turned off. At night it looked really great, as the water was moving up. Thus, the wind completely blew the deck over and over again so that there was an unnecessary risk of slipping. We should stay in our cabins during the day. Since I had saved all the adult films and looked at them in a rush, I chose the movie "Tammy - fully worn out". The cast sounded like a promising movie by Melissa McCarthy (lead actress - indeed obesity patient! - and screenwriter), Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette, Dan Aykroyd, and Sandra Oh. Well... I watched it, because it surprised me as an obesity patient, how I should see myself from a different point of view..



Diese Nacht und auch der Tag sind wieder so unruhig, dass sogar die offenen Decks gesperrt werden. Später werden alle Aktivitäten im hinteren offenen Sportbereich (RipCord und FlowRider) ebenfalls abgesagt. Auch North Star steht. Wir haben also Glück gehabt, dass wir es gestern bereits geschafft hatten. Nicht alle Ausgänge auf die offenen Decks werden konsequent verschlossen, weil Raucher sich kurzerhand den Weg nach draußen öffnen. Aber selbst ich mit meinen etwa 95 kg habe Schwierigkeiten im Wind mich zu halten und ich gehe aus Sicherheitsgründen wieder rein. Ärgerlich war allerdings, dass die Pools sehr spät entleert wurden und die Wasserspiele in den Kinderpools nicht abgestellt wurden. Nachts sah es aber richtig toll aus, wie das Wasser hochgedrückt wurde. So bläst der Wind komplett das Deck immer wieder nass, dass unnötigerweise Gefahr besteht, auszurutschen. Wir sollen wieder in unseren Kabinen im Laufe des Tages bleiben. Da ich alle Erwachsenen Filme abgespeichert und sie mir im Schnelldurchlauf angesehen hatte, wähle ich mir den Film "Tammy - voll abgefahren" aus. Die Besetzung klingt nach einem vielversprechendem Film Melissa McCarthy (Hauptdarstellerin - mit Sicherheit Adipositas-Patientin! - Und Drehbuchautorin), Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette, Dan Aykroyd und Sandra Oh. Na ja... ich habe ihn geguckt, weil er mich als Adipositas-Betroffener doch überrascht hat, wie man sich selbst auf den Arm nehmen kann.

Aber zurück zu meinem nächtlichen Entdeckungsrundgang, der mich durch die vielen Bars, Lounges und Restaurants führt. Das Wonderland habe ich nicht gebucht, weil mich Molekular-Küche absolut nicht interessiert. Fand ich furchtbar damals in Hannover. Aber eigentlich im Nachhinein wäre es gut für mich gewesen gewesen. Aber viel zu teuer. Gut ausgesehen hat es trotzdem. Im Windjammer Café habe ich mich über zwei Sachen gewundert: Welche Spezialitäten kann man bestellen? Und woher kommt die deutsche Milch auf einmal? Bisher gab es nur luxemburgische Milch.



But back to my nightly discovery tour that took me through the many bars, lounges and restaurants. I did not book the Wonderland because molecular cuisine was not at all interesting to me. I had a terrible time in Hanover, Germany. But in hindsight, it would have been good for me. But it was too expensive. It looked good anyway. In the Windjammer Café, I was wondering about two things: Which specialties could you order? And where did the German milk come from? So far, they offered only Luxembourgish milk.

Generally spoken, the public areas, which were not part of a bar or a lounge, were designed very lovely.



Insgesamt sind auch die öffentlichen Bereiche, die nicht direkt einer Bar oder Lounge zugeordnet sind schön gestaltet.

Was sehr angenehm ist: sehr viele Sitzecken und -landschaften.

So I sprawled myself here around too. I was wondering, how many guests were here during the daytime at the main road and just laying and sleeping.



So lümmel ich mich auch mal hinein. Ich war schon verwundert, wieviele Gäste tagsüber hier an der Hauptstraße darin liegen und schlafen.

Der Apfel fällt nicht weit vom Stamm... so hat mein Vater später im Solarium auch eine Lümmelecke für sich entdeckt und ist dort einen ganzen Tag geblieben. Ihm hat es dort richtig gut gefallen. Überwiegend trifft man hier diejenigen, die keinen eigenen Balkon haben und morgens schon sehr früh kommen, um sich eine Liege zu reservieren.



Like father like son... My father later discovered a lurking area in the solarium and stayed there for an entire day. He really liked it there. Mostly you met here those who did not have their own balcony and came in the morning already very early, to reserve a bed.

I took another look at Jamie's Italian. There, someone spent a lot of effort. Unfortunately, the bread was not here at all. Unfortunately, they were just decoration. Ich sehe mich nochmals in aller Ruhe im Jamie's Italian um. Da hat sich jemand sehr viel Mühe gemacht. Nur leider gibt es die Brote hier gar nicht. Die sind leider nur Dekoration. Und in den Bildschirmen laufen weiterhin Sendungen mit Jamie Oliver und dabei sehe ich dann auch: Jamie Oliver hat persönlich für mich meine Gerichte in den Mixer gepackt...

Zu meiner großen Überraschung: Meine Eltern sitzen im Devinly Decandence zum Frühstück. Nachdem sich jedoch mein Vater so einen Kokon im Solarium erobert hat, bietet sich das doch an. Sie übergeben mir so einen Zettel mit Smoothies, den ich zuletzt nicht hatte. Eigentlich sehr perfekt für meine Zwecke: Vitamine, frisch in Reinform. Schade, dass ich es erst am vorletzten Seetag entdecke. Er ist richtig lecker. Es schmeckt besonders gut, weil die frischen Kräuter auf der Theke auch einen besonders guten Eindruck vermitteln und deren Geruch in der Nase macht einfach Lust.



To my great surprise: My parents were sitting at Devinly Decadence for breakfast. However, after my father conquered such a cocoon in the solarium, that was certainly the easiest way to get breakfast. They gave me a list of smoothies that I did not have at last. Actually very perfect for my purposes: vitamins, fresh in its purest form. Too bad that I discovered it only on the penultimate day at sea. That was really tasty. It tasted particularly good because the fresh herbs on the counter also gave a particularly good impression and their smell in the nose just made you want it.

Café two 70° also served breakfast. It just bothered me that you have to pick everything yourself and then had to look for a table. Again, you could buy coffee specialties. And here, too, I did "industrial espionage" ... (I hardly think that Norwegian, Carnival, and MSC could do anything with my discoveries... - So for them, the information was not, but for a die-hard coffee fan. He might never otherwise book a cruise if he should not know exactly how they prepare his coffee in the usual words of a coffee lantern like me ("Tastes!" or "Does not taste!"). Or like "There's a Starbuck's on board!". For the worst case, he would drag his own barista machine on board and placed it in his cabin to open a coffee bar and re-finance the cruise.... During the day, two 70° rehearsals took place during the day. I.e., sometimes such a projection on the wall. WOW!



Auch im Café two 70° gibt es Frühstück. Mich stört dabei bloß, dass man sich alles selbst holen muss und dann sich einen Platz suchen muss. Auch hier kann man Kaffeespezialitäten kaufen. Und auch hier betreibe ich "Industriespionage"... (Ich glaube kaum, dass Norwegian, Carnival und MSC etwas mit meinen Erkenntnissen anfangen können... - also für die sind die Informationen nicht, sondern für einen eingefleischten Kaffeefan, der sonst möglicherweise nie eine Kreuzfahrt buchen würde, wenn er nicht vorher genau weiß, wie sein Kaffee zubereitet wird. Mit üblichen Worten eines Kaffeelaien wie mich ("schmeckt!" oder "schmeckt nicht!"), wie "Da ist ein Starbuck's an Bord", kann man ihn kaum zu einer Buchung bewegen... Notfalls schleppt er sich eine eigene Barista-Maschine an Bord und stellt sie in seiner Kabine auf, um dort eine Kaffee-Bar zu eröffnen und die Kreuzfahrt re-zu-finanzieren...). Tagsüber finden im two 70° Proben statt. D. h. auch mal so eine Projektion an der Wand. WOW!

So geht es für mich wieder ins American Icon zu Frühstück. Ich probiere die anderen warmen Frühstücksangebote aus: Whole Wheat ist ja bloß Grießbrei... meine halbe Banane...



So I went again to American Idol for breakfast. I tried the other warm breakfast offer: Whole Wheat... my half banana...

And again scrambled eggs with herbs - ( FOUR GREEN DOTS LOOKED AT ME!!! ) - made from fresh eggs. Still, they could not manage, that really only one egg came. I would stop half anyway. Depending on my actual condition, I could even eat the hash browns. Some days they were soft and tender, and then I was lucky. In any case, they did not taste like a patty from the freezer, which was deep fried.



Und wieder ein Kräuter-(VIER GRÜNE PUNKTE SEHE ICH!!!)-Rührei aus frischen Eiern. Immer noch nicht habe ich es geschafft, dass auch wirklich bloß ein Ei kommt. Ich lasse eh die Hälfte wieder stehen. Je nach Tagesform kann ich sogar die Hash-Browns essen. An manchen Tagen sind sie butterweich und dann habe ich Glück. Auf jeden Fall schmecken sie nicht wie ein Klotz aus der Tiefkühltruhe, der in einer Friteuse ausgebacken wurde.

Ich bekomme meine Rechnung für das Herausziehen der Fäden.

In La Patisserie gibt es einen Schokoladen-Croissant, der ein absoluter Traum ist. Den muss ich aber selbst essen bevor er austrocknet, weil ich meine Eltern nicht gefunden habe und Camila ihn auch nicht wollte. Der kostenlose hat bloß ein paar Schokostreifen auf dem Croissant und ist nicht mit einer tollen Nuss-Nougat-Creme gefüllt.



In La Patisserie they had a chocolate croissant that was an absolute dream. But I had to eat it myself before it would dry up because I did not find my parents and Camila did not want it either. The complimentary one had just a few chocolate strips on the croissant and was not filled with a delicious nut nougat cream.

It was only purchased to determine if 15% of service charges were now charged on the croissant. But as I said before, the Royal Caribbean board told me that no one was upset about this charge on OASIS OF THE SEAS and ALLURE OF THE SEAS before and that these costs have already been accepted by other guests. It was common on land in every Starbuck's that they would also charge a service charge on it... Aha... what a logic... I would not check that because I was not a big Starbuck's fan. Occasionally, I had a Frappucino there in the summer.



Er wird nur gekauft, um festzustellen, ob nun auf den Croissant 15% Service-Charges erhoben werden. Aber wie bereits gesagt: der Vorstand von Royal Caribbean hat mir erklärt, dass sich hierüber zuvor auf der OASIS OF THE SEAS und ALLURE OF THE SEAS niemand aufgeregt hat und diese Kosten von anderen Gästen bereits akzeptiert wurden. Es sei an Land in jedem Starbuck's üblich, dass sie auch eine Service-Charge hierauf erheben würden... Aha... was für eine Logik... Ich werde das nicht nachprüfen, weil ich kein großer Starbuck's Fan bin. Ab und zu trinke ich dort mal im Sommer einen Frappucino.

Mittags geht es wieder in den American Icon... Die Käsebrötchen sind weich und lecker.

Ich bin übrigens mit Jerry zum Mittagessen verabredet. Wir kennen uns auch von unserer legendären Tandem-Überfahrt mit den "U-Booten" QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 und QUEEN ELIZABETH 2. Ich freue mich sehr, ihn wieder zu sehen und mich mit ihm auszutauschen. Seine erste Transatlantik war übrigens noch mit der legendären FRANCE, kurz bevor sie dann den Betrieb eingestellt haben.



Incidentally, I was having lunch with Jerry. We knew each other from our legendary tandem crossing with the "submarines" QUEEN VICTORIA 2008, and QUEEN ELIZABETH 2. I was thrilled to see him again and to talk to him. By the way, his first transatlantic was still on the legendary FRANCE, just before they stopped operation.

He showed me after that his studio interior stateroom with a virtual view (12630 - part of a cabin arrangement which could be attached to a suite booking): an LCD-TV-set, which was turned around 90°...



Er zeigt mir übrigens danach mal seine Studio-Innenkabine mit virtuellem Blick (12630 - Teil des Kabinenarrangements, das man zu einer Suite zusammenbuchen kann): ein LCD-Fernseher, der um 90° gedreht wurde...

Ich bin ganz froh über mein Upgrade. Er meint, dass es wohl daran liegt, dass er zum ersten Mal mit Royal Caribbean unterwegs sein. Das kann eigentlich nicht sein, weil wir damals auf der JEWEL OF THE SEAS 2007 auch so ein Upgrade bekommen haben, als wir das erste Mal mit Royal Caribbean unterwegs waren. Bruno würde vermutlich sich einen neuen Freund suchen, wenn ich uns so eine Kabine buchen würde: Eine Matratze und eine Decke, die nicht trennbar sind.



I was very happy about my upgrade. He said it was probably because I was traveling with Royal Caribbean for the first time. Nachmittags habe ich einen Termin mit dem Future Cruise Consultant und erkundige mich nach den Vorteilen von Buchungen an Bord.

Da man nichts an den bestehenden Buchungen machen kann und ich mich auch nicht durchreißen kann, eine offene Buchung anzulegen, weil man mindestens fünf Tage unterwegs sein muss, um von einem Bordguthaben zu profitieren, lasse ich es. Und damit kämen wir zum Grund, warum für Royal Caribbean kein eigener Blog aufgemacht macht, obwohl das ja keine Mini-Cruise ist: ich kann mir derzeit einfach nicht vorstellen, dass ich absehbarer Zeit, ein längere Reise mit Royal Caribbean unternehmen würde und schon gar nicht auf der QUANTUM OF THE SEAS, die ein sehr schönes Schiff ist, bloß nicht unbedingt mein Schiff.



Since you could not do anything with the existing bookings and I could not convince myself to create an open reservation, because you had to be on a voyage for at least five days to benefit from an onboard credit, I left it. And that was why I had no reason to start my own Royal Caribbean blog, although that was not a mini-cruise. I could not imagine at the moment, that I would take a more extended trip with Royal Caribbean for now. Certainly not on the QUANTUM OF THE SEAS, which was a lovely ship, just did not meet my taste.

That day was the day of disasters. An elevator got stuck with passengers. The doors were being tested and marked as "out of service". But a test with passengers?



Heute ist so der Tag der Katastrophen. Ein Fahrstuhl bleibt mit Fahrgästen stecken. Die Türen werden gerade getestet und ist mit "außer Betrieb" gekennzeichnet. Aber ein Test mit Passagieren?

Ich komme nicht mehr in meine Kabine. Schon zum 2. Mal. Beim letzten Mal löste sich allerdings das Problem nach 20 Minuten von selbst. Heute nicht. Und heute nicht nur bei mir, wie ich beim Warten beobachten kann.



I could not get into my cabin anymore. For the second time. The last time, however, the problem resolved itself after 20 minutes. Not today. And not just with me today, as I was able to watch while waiting.

Since I did not feel like queuing myself downstairs at Guest Services, I tried to call. As usual (sometimes you could be lucky too - that was why not "always"), nobody answered.



Da ich keine Lust habe, mich unten am Guest Services anzustellen, versuche ich anzurufen. Wie meistens (manchmal hat man ja auch Glück - deswegen nicht "immer"), meldet sich keiner.

Ich habe aber Glück, dass in diesem Augenblick Camila vorbeikommt und selbst auch mit ihrem Generalschlüssel nicht reinkommt. Es muss ein Techniker gerufen werden, der später die ganze RFID-Einheit neu programmieren muss.



But I was lucky that Camila passed by right now and could not even getting in with her master key. A technician had to be called, who later had to reprogram the entire RFID unit.

I enjoyed again one more time the sunshine, and especially the warmth on my balcony. Bruno already warned me. The cold front arrived already in New York, NY.



Ich genieße nochmals die letzten Sonnenstrahlen und vor allem die Wärme auf dem Balkon. Bruno warnt mich bereits vor. In New York ist die Kaltfront bereits eingetroffen.

Die Fernsehkanäle wurden bereits umprogrammiert und statt der europäischen Sender (inkl. RTL) gibt es jetzt ein paar amerikanische Fernsehsender im Angebot. Aber ich gucke zu Hause kein RTL und hier an Bord mache ich es auch nicht. So gibt es eigentlich nichts, das ich vermisse.



The TV-channels were already reprogrammed and instead of European channels (incl. a private German TV-channel), they had more US TV-channels now. Since I did not watch any private TV-channel, I did not do it here either. So far, I did not miss anything.

We got as a gift another backpack and a certificate (well, they could spend a little more effort... unfortunately, it was not quite so beautiful to frame it...).



Wir bekommen noch einen Rucksack und ein Zertifikat (da hätten sie sich etwas mehr Mühe geben können... ist leider nicht ganz so schön ausgefallen, um es zu rahmen...) als Geschenk.

Ein Hinweis, dass die Balkone gereinigt werden. WOW. Bekamen wir auf der CELEBRITY MILLENIUM 2014 auch, aber da ist nichts passiert. Ich bin schon gespannt. Aber Camilla hat ja auch die Balkone zwischendurch gereinigt, auch wenn kein Zettel vorliegt.

After breakfast and lunch, we should have dinner at the American Icon. Unfortunately, the lunch menu consisted of 80% of the dinner menu and never changed. A concept that I did not like. They should also turn to open the other complimentary restaurants for lunch, to have some variations or to offer daily specials or a regular change of the lunch menu. But it stayed quite dull. Because there was only one soup, they had, again and again, New England Clam Chowder for me. This time, Dejan served me the soup without condiments. They also had Jambalaya, which I only ordered as a broth with rice. Since I still could eat lettuce very well, I ordered some more of it. The desserts were also delicious. My dad loved his ice cream skillet. And I followed Dejan's recommendation and tried the donuts, which dissolved very well in the coffee dip and were then soft and tender. In the end, Dejan's favorite colleague came over, I took a mutual picture of them.



Nach dem Frühstück und dem Mittagessen geht es auch zum Abendessen ins American Icon. Leider besteht ja die Mittagskarte aus 80% der Abendkarte und wechselt nie. Ein Konzept, das mir nicht gefällt. Man sollte vielleicht auch abwechselnd die anderen kostenlosen Restaurants für das Mittagessen öffnen, um eine Abwechslung zu haben oder doch tägliche Specials anbieten oder täglich die Mittagskarte wechseln. So ist es aber recht langweilig. Weil es nur eine Suppe gibt, gibt es für mich schon wieder New England Clam Chowder, wobei Dejan mir dieses Mal nur die Suppe ohne Einlage bringt. Es gibt noch Jambalaya, die ich mir auch nur als Brühe mit Reis kommen lasse. Da ich noch Blattsalate sehr gut essen kann, bestelle ich halt davon ein bisschen mehr. Die Nachtische sind auch sehr gut. Mein Vater ist von seinem Eis-Pfännchen begeistert. Und ich folge der Empfehlung Dejans und probiere die Krapfen, die sich sehr gut in dem Kaffee-Dip auflösen und daher dann butterweich sind. Am Schluss kommt wohl Dejans Lieblingskollegin vorbei, mit der ich noch ein gemeinsames Bild mache.
