Morgens früh geht es erst mal raus, um die einlaufende ADVENTURE OF THE SEAS zu sehen.

I was told to have Calcium. In a Calcium-Citrate preparation... Why could not it be "The Laughing Cow"?

My emergency kit: a lot of energy drinks, applesauce and a can of pears, because it would be easier to shred meat. Also, a little blender was with me, in case I could order something into the cabin, and I need to blend it by myself. But there was no need to have it all with me.



Mein Notfall-Kit: jede Menge Energy-Drinks, Apfelmus und eine Dose Birnen, weil man damit wohl besser Fleisch zerkleinern kann. Und der ist auch mit, falls ich etwas auf der Kabine bestellen muss, das ich mir dann selbst zerkleinere. Aber das hätte ich alles gar nicht mit dabei haben müssen.

Viele werden schon erkannt haben, wo wir sind. Die Himbeeren kann ich pürieren. Alles andere ist zu hart. Ich bekomme ein Rührei und ein englisches Würstchen ohne Haut. Mit diesem starte ich den Wettbewerb: wie bekomme ich am wenigsten auf die Gabel, ohne dass es auseinander fällt. Und mit der HP-Sauce lässt es sich sehr gut runterschlucken. Meine Eltern bekommen ihr erstes echtes englisches Frühstück.



Many of you might identify where we were. I could mash the raspberries. Everything else was too hard. I got one scrambled egg and one English sausage without skin. With that I started the competition: how would I get the least on a fork without breaking. With some HP-sauce, it was easy to swallow. My parents got their first true English breakfast.

Here they had so many pictures of the cruise ships that we could easily make one selfie together with QUEEN MARY 2.

Hier sind wir natürlich bei Shirley und Godfrey im Maples Hotel in Hythe. Einfach für mich der beste Ort zum Shipspotten. Und die Herzlichkeit bekomme ich woanders nicht.



Certainly, we were with Shirley and Godfrey in the Maples Hotel in Hythe, England. For me, it was simply the best place for shipspotting. And I could not get that kind of cordiality at other places on earth.

In case, someone was looking for a place to take pictures: Harbour Close in Marchwood, England. Just drive to the river bank.

Bei gutem Wetter wäre ich vielleicht nach Stonehenge gefahren, aber seit kurzem sind keine spontanen Besuche mehr möglich, sondern man muss online vorab Tickets mit Zeitfenster bestellen. Es ist zu kalt für so einen Ausflug, so fahren wir zwischendurch noch zum West Quay Shopping Center, um dort zu Mittag zu essen. Innerhalb des Shopping Centers fahren wir zur Cafeteria des Kaufhauses John Lewis. Hier können wir direkt zum Schiff rüber gucken. Dort gibt es für wenig Geld Riesen-Omelettes. Ich wollte eine Gulaschsuppe ohne Gulasch (Hoffentlich hat keiner meinen letzten NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2)-Blog gelesen... da hatte ich mich darüber beschwert, dass gar kein Fleisch in der Gulaschsuppe war...), aber ich wirkte wohl zu mitleiderregend bei der Frau, die die Suppe ausgab. Es war wohl extra viel Fleisch drin. Das konnte ich unmöglich essen. Mein Vater freute sich wieder über so viele Reste. Und ich gehe mir ein Eiersalat-Sandwich holen und kratze den Belag runter.



Would we have good weather, I might go to Stonehenge, England, but recently they did not allow any more spontaneous visits, and you needed to book tickets with a fixed time slot. It was anyway too cold for such a tour, so we went to West Quay Shopping Center to have lunch. Within the mall you had the cafeteria of John Lewis. From here you had a view directly to the ship. You could get for a little money a giant-omelet. I wanted to have a Goulash-Soup without Goulash (Hopefully, none read before my blog of NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2)... There I complained that I got a Goulash-soup without meat...), but the service staff member, who released the soup, had pity with me. So had extra meat in the soup. I was unable to eat. My father was happy that so much was left over. And I got an egg salad sandwich and pulled of the spread.

I was happy to find this charging station just in front of the cafeteria.



Ich war froh, dass ich die Ladestation direkt vor der Cafeteria fand.

Hier konnte ich 30 Minuten lang mein iPhone nachladen. Alle Stecker vorhanden.

I needed detergent for dishwashing and went to the place, the Queen and Camilla also went to.



Ich brauche Geschirrspülmittel und gehe dorthin, wo die Königin und Camilla auch ihr Geschirrspülmittel kaufen.

Da ich mich selbst kassiere, muss ich 98 Pence mit meiner Kreditkarte bezahlen.

I was wondering if Elizabeth and Camilla would use the same detergent, in case they would need to clean the blender on board???



Benutzen Elizabeth und Camilla auch dieses Geschirrspülmittel, wenn sie selbst mal ihren Zerkleinerer an Bord abspülen müssen???

Als wir einen Parkplatz bestellt hatten, wussten wir noch nichts vom neuen Check-In-Verfahren bei Royal Caribbean. So haben wir für vormittags den Wagen angemeldet. Wir werden angerufen, weil wir schon vermisst werden, aber man wartet auf uns, weil ich sage, dass ich eigentlich per E-Mail über die Änderungen (Kennzeichen und Übergabezeiten) informiert habe. Mein Auto wird vor Übernahme rundum begutachtet und jeder Kratzer fotografiert.



When we booked the parking, we did know on the new check-in-procedures with Royal Caribbean. So we booked for the morning the car. They called us since they were missing us, but they would wait since I informed that I informed them by e-mail of the changes (registration plate and pick-up time). They checked my car from all sides before they accepted it and every scratch was photographed.

The car was handed over to Parking4Cruises. After crosschecking the prices, this valet-parking-provider was cheaper than anyone right on-site but any off-site-provider too. I was astonished.



Die Übergabe erfolgte an Parking4Cruises. Nach Vergleich war dieser Valet-Parkdienst günstiger als jeder Anbieter vor Ort oder auch jeder andere Off-Site-Anbieter. Ich war sehr überrascht.

Neun Tage vor Abfahrt bekam ich meine Kabine zugeteilt. Ich hatte ein Innen-Studio gebucht und bekam eine Balkon-Kabine. Leider auf einem anderen Deck als meine Eltern und leider im Heck, während meine Eltern im Bugbereich ihre Kabine haben. Das bedeutet lange Wege. Ich habe angefragt, ob man mir eine Kabine geben könnte, die näher bei der meiner Eltern liegt. Auf ein Upgrade hätte ich gerne verzichtet. Man hat es aber kategorisch abgelehnt, da ich eine Garantie-Kabine gebucht habe. Es wird nach Zuteilung nichts mehr verändert. Da sind andere Gesellschaften weitaus kundenfreundlicher! Da kann man schon nachfragen, ob man innerhalb der zugeteilten Kategorie dann ggfls. wechseln darf. Bisher hat noch niemand nein gesagt, nur Royal Caribbean.



Nine days ahead of sailing a cabin was allocated. I booked an inside studio, and I got a balcony cabin. Unfortunately, on a different deck than my parents and unfortunately, in the aft but forward, where my parents stayed. That meant long ways. I requested to have a cabin which would be closer to my parents' cabin. I really would decline the upgrade. They peremptorily refused since I had a guarantee cabin. After allocation, nothing would be changed anymore. Other companies were more customer oriented! You could ask if you could move within the allocated category. So far, none has ever said no before but Royal Caribbean.

After the experiences on ISLAND PRINCESS 2013 and especially on MEIN SCHIFF 2 2012, we did not want to be so early onboard, but as late as possible. I preferred to pay my lunch ashore myself and hoped that all were gone when we were appearing. So I chose as arrival time slot: 14:45 hrs to 15:15 hrs.



Nach den Erfahrungen auf der ISLAND PRINCESS 2013 und vor allem MEIN SCHIFF 2 2012, möchte ich gar nicht mehr früh an Bord, sondern möglichst spät. Ich zahle lieber mein Mittagessen an Land selbst und hoffentlich sind alle anderen schon durch, wenn wir kommen. So habe ich als Ankunftszeitraum 14:45 Uhr bis 15:15 Uhr gewählt.

Meine Eltern bekamen rechtzeitig vorgedruckte Gepäckanhänger. Ich bekam nichts. Noch nicht einmal Gepäckanhänger zum Herunterladen, Selbstausdrucken und Zusammenfalten.



My parents got right on time the prepared baggage tags. I did not get anything. Not yet the baggage tags to download, to print and to fold yourself.

The problem: from the tag of my parents the porters might copy all and transfer to an RFID-tag. But I would need to queue up for a different counter to find out of my cabin was aft or midship. I determined midship, so I must not line up to find out the ship's area and then to hand over the bags again.



Das Problem: von den Etiketten meiner Eltern konnte der Gepäckträger alles abschreiben und auf ein RFID-Tag übertragen. Ich hätte mich erst an einem anderen Schalter anstellen sollen, damit sie mir sagen, ob meine Kabine im Heck- oder im Mittschiff-Bereich liegt. Ich lege mich auf den Mittschiff-Bereich fest, damit ich mich nicht erst an dem Schalter anstehen muss, um meinen Bereich herauszubkommen, und dann wieder meinen Koffer zu übergeben.

Das haben wir schon vor dem Mittagessen erledigt. Aber dafür habe ich zum ersten Mal etwa eine halbe Stunde gebraucht. Zuvor ohne RFID-Tag haben wir Sekunden gebraucht, um das Gepäck zu übergeben.



That, we did already before lunch. But it was the first time, we needed about half an hour for that. Before we had the RFID-tags, we needed seconds to hand over the bags.

After dinner, it looked like that, and my car was moved to the parking.



Nach dem Abendessen sieht es so aus und mein Wagen wird zum Parkplatz gefahren.

Nichts mehr los.



Everything was calm.

Nothing was said! It should say in which part of the ship, I was staying.



Hier steht nichts! Hier hätte stehen sollen, in welchem Bereich des Schiffes ich wohne.

Man bekommt dann auf die Quittung auf den Ausdruck. Was machen eigentlich Gäste, die keinen Online-Check-In gemacht haben und somit keinen Ausdruck haben.



You got a receipt on the print-out. What should guests do, who did not make online-check-in and so had no print-outs?

You should read it carefully: you should not remove the RFID-tags unless you left the ship again.



Man sollte sich das mal genauer durchlesen: Man soll die RFID-Tags nicht entfernen, bis man wieder vom Schiff ist.

Eigentlich sollte ich mich nicht aufregen. Später berichten mir nämlich andere Mitfahrer, die wohl zur selben Zeit ihr Gepäck abgegeben haben, dann aber eben nicht wie wir Mittagessen gefahren sind und zur selben Zeit erst an Bord waren wie wir. Aber trotzdem: es war alles andere als erfreulich. Es war wie gesagt ziemlich kühl in Southampton und du wurdest direkt hinter der ersten Glasschiebetür "abgefertigt". Es war sehr unklar, wo du dich eigentlich anstellen solltest. Eine Dame meinte einfach: "Stellen Sie sich irgendwo an". Mehrere Mitarbeiter mit Tablets (keine iPads von Apple!!!) standen so mitten in der Vorhalle und um jeden bildeten sich mehrere Schlangen sternförmig. Als wir endlich dran waren, hatten wir Pech: Nummer 1 meinte bloß "Geben Sie mir eine Sekunde! Mein Tablet hat keinen Strom mehr!" und wurde anschließend nie wieder gesehen. Wir haben gewartet und es kam niemand. Eine Mitarbeiterin meinte nach zehn Minuten meinte, dass wir uns eine neue Schlange suchen sollten und demjenigen sagen sollten, dass er uns sofort dran nehmen soll. Das habe ich abgelehnt, da die anderen in der anderen Schlange hierfür bestimmt kein Verständnis hätten. Sie hat sich dann Nummer 2 geschnappt, die gerade wohl verschwinden wollte und sie fing an. In der Hälfte des Eincheck-Vorgangs meldete sie auch ein leeres Tablet und verschwand und wurde auch nie wieder gesehen... Die Tablets wurden wohl zuvor noch nie in einem kleineren Hafen auf Belastbarkeit getestet und es fehlten wohl komplett die Erkenntnisse, dass bei einem so großen Schiff, wie der QUANTUM OF THE SEAS möglicherweise man mehr Tablets braucht, die im Hintergrund geladen standby bereitstehen und einer mit herumlaufen muss, der sofort die Tablets austauschen muss...



I should not be annoyed. Later other cruise-fellows reported that they dropped-off their bags around the same time but did not go for lunch and came onboard around the same time as us. But nevertheless: it was anything else but pleasant. It was quite chilly in Southampton, England and they "handled" the check-in right after the first glass-sliding door. It was not clear, where you needed to queue. One lady just said: "Just queue up anywhere". Some agents with tables (no iPads by Apple!!!) stood in the center of the lobby, and star-wise queues were forming around them. When it was finally our turn: we had unluck: Number 1 just said: "Give me a second! My tablet had no more energy!" and after that, he was not seen anymore again. We waited, but none showed up. Another agent said after ten minutes that we should find a new queue and tell him to take us immediately. I declined since others in the queue might not have the understanding for that. She told Number 2, who wanted to disappear, to handle us and she started to do so. In the middle of the check-in process, she also reported a weak tablet and disappeared too and was never seen again... Obviously, they did not have a strain test it in a smaller port to learn, that you might need more tables for a ship like QUANTUM OF THE SEAS and to have some standby and recharged in the background and one needed to be around to exchange the tablet if needed...

We were taken to the "hall of idiots". That was the classic check-in hall for all guests, who were too stupid, to make an online-check-in. I was smart but needed to see the room also. I had all the correct print-outs, and it took hours to have them all ready by writing tons of emails to Royal Caribbean to have everything proper, and they did not let you immediately onboard, and you needed to queue up again.



Wir wurden daher in die "Idiotenhalle" geführt. Das ist die klassische Schalterhalle für alle, die zu blöd waren, ihren Online-Check-In zu machen. Ich war ja nicht zu blöd und musste trotzdem dahin. Ich hatte alle richtigen Ausdrucke gehabt und stundenlang mich damit auseinander gesetzt, zig E-Mails an Royal Caribbean geschrieben, um alles richtig zu machen und trotzdem darf ich nicht direkt an Bord und muss mich wieder erneut anstellen.

Nr. 3 fängt uns aber ab, bevor wir an eine Schlange für einen Schalter kommen. Und probiert es: Ich stehe 20 cm vor ihr und dieses blöde Tablet behauptet einfach, dass ich nicht anwesend wäre und sie kann nichts tun, um diesem Tablet zu sagen, dass ich anwesend bin. Nach dem klassischen Reset, war ich dann doch da und konnte abfertigt werden. Aber alle Daten meiner Eltern waren im Online-Check-In-System verschwunden.



No. 3 caught us before we could reach the queue for a counter. And she tried it: I just stood a few inches apart from her, and the stupid tablet said that I was not present and she was not able to tell the tablet, that I was present. After a classical reset, I was present and checked-in. But all data of my parents were disappearing in the online-check-in-system.

So we were taken to No. 4. She was a supervisor who had to solve all the challenging and severe problems, and she did not handle us at the tablet but a classic desktop which was wired with electric power. It was impossible to treat us quickly since many came to let her solve their problems. Everything that I was entering at home needed to re-enter again. Also, the pictures of my parents were missing now and needed to be re-taken again at the gangway. Finally, we got a green stamp. Without, you were not allowed to board. We needed to wait again, until boarding group D was ready to board and finally, we made it onboard. Welcome to the Royal Chaos! And the chaos continued onboard and became an intelligent chaos.



Also wurden wir zu Nr. 4 geführt. Sie war eine Supervisorin, die natürlich so alle schwierigen Fälle zu lösen hatte und uns zum Glück nicht an einem Tablet eingecheckt hat, sondern an einem Desktop, der über genügend Strom verfügte. Uns konnte sie trotzdem nicht zügig einchecken, weil natürlich so ziemlich jeder auf sie zukam und ein Problem gelöst haben wollte. Alles, was ich bereits zuvor zu Hause eingegeben habe, musste hier nochmals eingegeben werden. Auch die Bilder meiner Eltern fehlten und wurden später an der Gangway neu aufgenommen. Endlich gab es den grünen Stempel. Ohne den darf man nicht an Bord. Zumindest mussten wir nicht nochmals warten, bis dass Boarding Gruppe D ausgerufen wurde und durften direkt danach an Bord. Willkommen zum Royal Chaos! Und das Chaos geht an Bord weiter und wird dann zum intelligenten Chaos.
